Keep at it!  I worked very hard the last two day and saw very little; but was rewarded nicely yesterday.  Sometimes that false motivation keeps you going; that four point is still out there making mistakes all the time; you need to be there for one.

I feel for ya and am in same boat. Me and let.it.fly and his buddy Jason went out saturday and hiked like 7 miles uphill and saw nothing. Just old sign. It was fun and I was happy to get out but sure would like to get into some bear and deer. Saw some elk and bear poop but nothing else. OOH, wait, we did see several guys up there putting lead into the hill side, (target practicing with AK's and pistols) may thats why we didn't see anything. LOL

just keep at it if its blacktail you are talking about good luck trying to pattern them. Opening day we saw 15 deer all does and yearlings and 1 little spike. I had to work Sunday but my buddy and his dad went out and saw nothing all day. Most I talked to didnt see nearly as much on Sun as Sat.

you might start hunting the does from here on out.  That 4x4 will be pestering them here very soon so if you can keep tabs on your doe populations or places you typically see a doe here and there, those are great areas to key in on.  Watch the wind and don't bugger them up.  If you're talking about cut areas, glass from a distance rather than drive up, get out, glass...that's the quickest way to spook deer.  See them from a distance and put a plan together.  Bucks will be near the does.  Good luck!

Are you on the west side?  If so, that's just the way blacktail hunting is.  When I lived over there I remember hunting hard all day and maybe seeing a deer or two, but some days  nothing at all.  That's why they call it hunting.

thanks for the advice everyone. my dad and i have been thinking about going to check out some new areas. the season before last my dad hunted the captial forest and got a really nice big bodied 3 point. so we were thinking about giving that a shot next weekend. anyone know how captial forest is doing this year. besides that there are about a million hunters out there.
