lousy morning hunt...

I hunted a small puddle this morning and had a bad time with some other guys.  We got to a spot early and were the first ones in.  We had our decs out and went to park.  There we met a really nice guy and he said they were going to be there as well.  It's not a big area and we invited them to sit with us if they wanted to.  We went back to the spread and were waiting for light when I saw them come near and start setting up...when I say near I mean NEAR...100 yds.  I shined my flashlight and let them know where we were...they ignored it.  Then five or six minutes before legal light they shoot...STRAIGHT AT US!  We didn't get hit but the bbs were really close and it was dangerous. 
I hollered that we were over here and they ignored me again.  They were doing some skybusting, which I can live with, but then we got "BBed" again... Then they started working thier dog right in between us...at 7am...wtf?  I finally had enough and decided to say something to them.  They told me that they were here yesterday (somehow figured they had dibs?) and that we were in thier spot...it was sort of heated and I was pretty mad at this point. 

I called the game warden and let him know- even though five minutes isn't a huge deal, it was pretty dark and I do not like getting shot at.  The nice guy we talked to was in the group and felt pretty bad.  He  got away from them for a minute and invited us on a trip in his boat soon (i'll take him up on it provided the other *censored* bags are not in attendance). What a waste of a good morning.   :bash:

Hey been there done that before. A few years back a buudy and I went in a few weeks before season and built a blind in a spot where I have hunted for many years. We get there opening morning a fews years back and we are the second ones there. The area can hold about 5 sets of guys with 500+ yards in between. So all is good. We motor down to our new blind and see some guys about 800 yards down the river. No biggy we set up. Then we hear a motor comming and goes by and talks with the other guys and drops a few guys. Still no biggy. Then they go back to get more guys and gear. Motor thru our spread and come back about 15 min to shooting light. Then when it gets light we look down and see them about 100 yards down. We are just pissed and start shooting at all that come close. We still got a few  ducks. But my dog was getting his ducks because he was so close. We had a few choice words with them. Sees they had come in and made a make shift blind just down from ours. Never did figure out why or never did seem them again. But what a way to ruin a opening day. But the season is long and opening weekend is just young dumb birds. So I feel your pain and glad to hear noboy was shot. And also good to hear about the offer to hunt with the good guy later.
Sorry to hijack your thread. But venting is good.

sorry guys..that would make me come unglued! I guess the worst thing that happened to me was a bald eagle stole a kill last season...

its that much worse when people get tense and everyone is armed...

I know people get ticked about those who try to lease up farm land for their own hunting privies, but I think that is where the sport is going. 2 things are going to happen. the quality of blinds and hunting land will increase, but the cost to use it will increase too.  Danger may decrease. the whole experience will be about something different then it is today.
