Adjusting trigger pull on a Marlin XL7

I've got an XL7 in 30.06.  I'm thinking of adjusting the pull, down from the approx 3lb.  It's got an easy to adjust trigger.  It basically takes two screws to get the stock off and get to the adjustment. 

Any advise on doing this, and any way to measure the pull?
