snohomish county ducks

ok, so iv never hunter ducks or geese over here on the west side before, i do all my waterfowling in the basin later in winter. anyhow, i got a day off tomorrow and i was gonna head out and see what i could scrape up. problem: NO IDEA WHERE TO GO... looked at the wdfw site and seen the land they have open, cherry valley, crecent lake, etc... are they places really any good? id rather not go to wdfw maintained sites if at all possible. i heard about a place off bickford ave in snohomish, fobes hill or something? anyways, im not lookin for a secret spot or anything, just somethin to get me out and keep me busy tomorrow. i live in snohomish so somewhere in the county would be ideal. thanks guys!

But cherry valley, crescent, stillwater arnt ususally any good till it starts to flood.


Ive been to where your talkin about(no idea on the name) but there should be water(think its got water year round)

Spencer Island is always a good place to start. Lots of tuxedo duck over there right now. You can expect a mixed bag of widgeon, GW teal, pintail, and mallards.

Last I checked there wasn't enough water at Fobes to make it worth while. And even when there is, it's pretty hit or miss. A guy with a sneak boat would have the best luck out there, but there are places to walk in. You could always go down and check it out and see how the water is. Just be careful if you're out walking around in waders. There are some deep ditches that will leave you swimming in a hurry if you aren't careful. It gets a lot of pressure later in the year as well. There is also a huge area just south of the US 2 trestle that is now open. You can walk the dike and there is some backwater that holds some ducks. I've been wanting to get down there but don't have a dog and there's a lot of thick stuff to lose birds in down there.

Another option for you would be Skagit county. There's another thread on here today with a link to the WDFW site for skagit areas. Big Ditch, Samish, etc can all be good especially later in the year.

Those water waste treatment ponds between Everett and Marysville are just packed with ducks and geese.  Not sure how they would be for table fare though.

if you find water on google earth, you can call your local county sheriff and ask about the shooting laws.

I walked the dike at fobes a week before it opened not much water then but there should be more now.  I have not hunted it yet this year but I have hunted the spot by highway 2 trestle it has been hit or miss.  A buddy and I shot are limits opening day there.  we shot 7 mallards 3 widgeon 4 teal and 1 goose that morning

Let me know if you wanna hook up and hunt the area south of the trestle or fobes. I'm up in granite falls now so they're both still fairly close for me.

I hunted Fobes last weekend and have a friend who lives down the road from there. Not much water yet. They are waiting for the number of silvers in the area to go down before they open the tidal gates that flood the fields. I pulled a few birds off from there Saturday, but nothing Sunday. I will be out there tomorrow and see how it is.

I was up in snohomish for a wedding on saturday and was amazed by the numbers and sizes of the flocks I was seeing. Cool area for birds!
