One of the proudest days I have had.  He caught one about 3-4 pounds the next day and lost one about 12.  Of course I didn't have the camera...

The whole CNR thing is hard for a 5 year old to understand.  Evething they catch they think they should be able to keep.   After a few minutes of walking the fish up river, in the water, and telling him we have a picture to always remember him by did he finally say OK dad lets let him go.  Even then he cried when the fish was gone.  The fish was fine, but the memory and the lesson of returning a fish to the river even though it was the biggest he had ever seen was hopefully something he will remember...

i can remember being a kid and always throwing a fit when i had to throw the wild ones back(native steelhead release was kind of a new thing).  wish i knew what i do now.

Just think  I might have released that one early in the season near Kalama just so that kid could catch it way up river.
