260 remington
« on: November 04, 2009, 11:11:57 AM »
I am looking for additional info on reloading for the .260 Remington.  I have tried several loads over the past few years with good accuracy across the board.  I am now trying the 140 accubond as I have heard so many good comments about that bullet.  IMR 7828 is my powder of choice right now because I have had good luck with it in many cartridges.  Any additional information or comment is appreciated.

go to hodgons powder online and they have a powder and loading table that you can enter your bullet and see what types of loads for what bullet and ect i use it alot because a few of my guns have very little info on them in loading manuals its also great to see what diffrent types of powder will work as well

Look at Reloader 17 and reloader 19. Should work well with a .260.

If you are using it for deer my thought is to use a lighter pill. May as well get it to shoot as flat as possible. I use 125 partitions but am going to work a load with 130 accubonds. My daughter used 100 grain partitions and it was GREAT on her deer. Just my  :twocents:

I agree gutpile.  This rifle is mainly for my daughter and she shoots it real well.  I have been shooting 100 grain Hornady's with good results.  My daughter shot a big MD doe at 180 yards off the sticks in a winter wheat field 2 years ago.  Right through the near shoulder and lodged in the foreleg joint on the opposite side losing very little weight.  Wanted the 130 Accubond but the store I wet to the other day only had the 140's.  Wanted a heavier bullet because I will be taking her on an out of state MD hunt in a couple years.  I don't mean to step on any toes here but I have not had the luck with Partitions that many have, so went to the Accubond.  Let me know how the 130 shoots and what powders you like.  BTW, I have a 700 Mountain Rifle, what do you shoot?

Thanks,

the partitions are the best bullets in my opion what are you havin probs with accuracy? the accubonds are good but not as good at weight retension as the part but they shoot very close to the same. i use the accubonds in the 25-06 and 270wsm i have and they both shoot very well with them.

I'll let you know. It'll probably be a while before I load any up though. Maybe this winter sometime. I'm shooting a Remmy 700 CDL. It's actually giving me fits right now. I killed my deer with it and brought it to WY for antleope but my accuaracy fell apart. Not sure why. Scope problem? Loose mounts? Just not sure but it's getting very irritating. I just couldn't get a good group so used my swede instead. When I do get it dialed in I'll let you know.

My daughter shoots a Ruger 77 youth rifle. It's seems to shoot everything pretty well.

I'd look no farther than the  120 tsx or 125 partition or the 130 accubond  for deer and elk..

If I was only after deer I might even consider a 100gr Partition.

Powder- H4350

I'm getting 2900fps + with the 130 Accubond.  Catches and passes the 270 at 450 yds +.  Just the way I see it.

I'm sure they do.

The 7-08 is the best killer I've ever seen. IMO  And the 260rem might be even better.  I need a couple more years to figure it out.  :)

OK Shag,
This is more like it.  I have shot the .260 for several years but 6.5 bullet choice has been fairly limited but is getting better.  Is the H4350 load at max, compressed etc and is it one you cooked up or is it published?  I had to back the load down on the 140's in order to get that long bullet deep enough to feed in the magazine.  It shoots fine though.
The 130 sounds like the best all around and I would not hesitate on elk with it.  I haven't shot H4350 in a long time so probably should give it a try again.
