Okay, so typed out a long story of trying to find my brother an elk, but it didn't get posted.
Short story: We didn't get one, but saw a few. Also saw some deer, a bobcat and quite a few forrest grouse. Did find a couple impressive rubs from deer, the better of the two not pictured since I only had my camera phone that day.
Climbed from around 1000 feet to nearly 3000 and got in some snow. Did find a few fresh tracks, but couldn't find the elk. Now am tired and sore, but enjoyed it. Think one morning we hiked about 8 miles round trip, but found some good places for the future. I do like locked gates, only saw one other hunter.
Spotted some elk on the far ridge. One small bull skylined himself so looked for and found four others.

Still hunted the thick stuff with no luck. Five years ago accidently called in a 7-point bull opening day of deer. Snapped a twig so gave a cow call and he came in.

Next morning went to where we saw the elk, but couldn't see much.

Kept climbing and got into the snow

One of the rubs found, not as good as the other.

We were just a few minutes behind him and a doe, but never did get a look at him.
