Size and dimentions of avg size coyote in the moses lake area?
« on: November 07, 2009, 04:59:37 PM »
I'm trying to build a full size coyote steel target for shooting practice, and distance judgement practice. i went to Wikipedia and the dimentions they gave are 30-34in length not including tail. tail of 12-16 in. 23-26" at shoulder. do these dimentions look right? went to tri state outfitters for a full size paper target and they were out. :(    do you think the 30-34 includes the head or just the body? has anyone whacked one and can give me thier demensions?.... The goal is to see what they look like standing still at known distances cause i only see them running in the basin....
In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

They sound reasonable, but I am no expert.  My last dog looked more like a large swamp rat.

I should be able to measure one for ya, hopefully tomorrow.  One thing to remember is that they have a LOT more hair and fluff than you realize.  Skin a few....most of the dogs I've skinned have smaller than 6 inches from their spine to the bottom of their rib cage.
We must reject the idea that every time a law's broken, society is guilty rather than the lawbreaker. It is time to restore the American precept that each individual is accountable for his actions.

I made a steel target of a full size yote, i made the chest area 7" top of spin to bottom of chest. In measured several yotes after skinning them, to come up with the 7" average.  I hope this helps.  :)

This is a big problem for beginning shooters who are used to shooting low lung - top of heart on big game.  That low shot is when you see the chest cavity split open and all of the guts fall out of a live dog.  It is one of the worst sites you can see in the woods.  I aim 1/3 down from the top of a coyote.  A high hit is 1000 times better than a low one with a coyote.

The ones in Moses Lake are big as Volkswagons. At least that's what the guys down there tell me.   :yike:

They aren't as big as cars but can run like a Marathon runner.. So how far from the front chest to the rump? 30 in????  I've been trying to find one of those full size yote targets and can't find any for a template... :bash:
