Worth It?
« on: November 14, 2009, 04:44:06 PM »
had afew way to close calls on the early season to want to give up on this years deer season and need the meat in the freezer too, so I have been looking at the 379/381 units for late season muleys but from what information i have found that it could be crowed with people and deer few and far between. was thinking the areas above mesa and the wahluke rec area would be my best bets but what about below wastucna? or east of kahlotus?

anyone wanna give a 1st year muzzloader some tips?, did my usual hunt over in  243 and loved the fact that i only saw 1 other muzzy hunter out there, defenetly hooked on this now, hell i'm already trying to figure out places to go on next years high hunt!

Try 130 for muley/whitey doe? or go chase whiteys in 139?  There are other seasons..still.  :)
Wild Turkey, Walleyes, Whitetails and Wapiti..These are a few of my favorite things!!

Well, I don't hunt in that region, but nearly all of my 'killing opportunities' have come in the late season.

Plus, isn't just being the woods with a weapon always 'worth it?'  You don't get if you don't go.

As for muzzle tips, I don't really do anything different between the late season and early season.  Just get out there and hunt.

Oh...and pray for snow.  Always a great equalizer.

just talked to my work today and i'm already inked in for the time off, so I'll be heading down there wensday night, scout as much as i can thurs, and hit it hard fri/sat/sun.

ANY time hunting is ALWAYS better than being at work, so hell even if i don't see squat it will still be cool stalking around new country, plus i'll bring my 12gauge so if its really bad i'll try for some roosters/quail

still though if anyone has any tips on the areas i talked about i'd still love to here em'! ;D

I hunted that unit a few years back but decided to go in the early season in hopes to learn the area for the late season should things not pan out. We never got to the late season because we filled our tags. Some very nice mule deer are there and one Very good whitetail that I would conservatively put at 150 or better that I couldn't get a shot at.
Stick to the private grounds if possible. If that's not an option try to hunt middle of the week, the pressure should be considerably less. Also this was my first opportunity to hunt Russian olives. didn't care for those not one bit  :'( but that's where the deer were

Good Luck

well that was interesting, was going to leave wensday like i said but ended up getting sick. left thursday morning still feeling like chit and got over to the wahluke area around 2:00pm just to find a nice orange sign saying AREA CLOSED....DOH, called local WDFW line and they were doing some spraying??, couldn't get much info besides it was going to be closed for possibly up to 2 weeks. found a spot to hunt friday morning east of the unit, but not much there, some deer sign, LOTS of coyote though. went over around kahlotus/washtucna saw plenty of deer but just in private, knocked on afew doors but no answers, probably at work ( 2nd DOH ) so i figured its best to take off and save my money for late BT

Still fun , like i said always good to see new parts of washington, next time i'll go over some months in advance and knock on some doors.
