Camping BY Yakima Res.
« on: November 29, 2009, 10:41:19 AM »
I am planning a 4-5 day trip next week, wanting to spend a couple days east of Tri-Cities and a couple days on the Res. Where can a guy camp where an RV or tent is safe if left alone all day, but a dog can still be off the leash. Trying to locate something around Sunnyside. I am aware of Sportsmans St. Park and know the Res. is off limits. Primitive or unimproved area is fine. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Canyon or Whitepass direction down low on the Tieton maybe.  Might be a bit of a drive, but sometimes its worththe piece of mind.  Its pretty bad anywhere near the Rez.  They'll strip the copperwire out of your trailer if they think they can make 10 cents, steal your propane tanks for cooking Meth, on and on.

Kinda figured that's what you all were going to say. Supposedly, there is an RV park in Granger and another in Sunnyside, so I guess I'll start calling. Thanks for the help.

Sunnyside is quite the place for gang violence. There is a KOA by Kmart on Nob Hill, if you are into that sort of thing. That's pretty close to the rez.

that is what I thought. i didnt think anyone would camp in the lower valley for anything else. If you are looking for upland game you might be better served to find some feel free to hunt land down by waitsburg and dayton area and stay there. Lots of good hunting between waitburg and starbuck.

The KOA is attached to the Sportsmans I think....or adjacent too anyway.

KOA is gone, if I remember right.  Took it out when they put in the new bridge.

Sounds like I better head a little further East.....or to North Dakota, if it wasn't such a long drive!

*censored*, maybe it is gone. Shows how much I travel to "that" part of Yakima. If you have the time, I'd go somewhere else other than the rez this year.
