6.8 Rem SPC brass???
« on: December 14, 2009, 11:30:06 PM »
What brass do you use for 6.8 Rem SPC???

I know the cartridge is based off the defunct 30 Remington brass, but it's been changed quite a bit.

I'm new to reloading, but I'm gonna have an AR chambered in 6.8 Rem very soon, so I need to get up on this stuff so I can keep myself stocked on ammo.

I know I will be using the .270 bullets (.277 dia.) and that I don't need Magnum primers, but I was looking for brass today and I didn't see any 6.8 brass (or .30 Rem) and I don't have a reloading manual (yet) so I figured I would ask first.

Also, is there anything special that needs to be done to the brass besides the normal stuff. . .I know when I was reading up on the caliber that the .30 Rem case was modified quite a bit. . .is that something I will have to do to all my "new" brass as well?

Thanks for taking the time to help me out!
Joel

Order your brass from Silver State armory.  I think Cabela's is carrying Silver state ammo and brass as well.  Be careful with your primers; 6.8 brass has been made with both large primer and also with small primer holes.  Make sure you have the correct primer for your brass.
The answer to forming your own brass could probably be found on 68forums: a forum just for 6.8 fans.  35 remington brass could be used as a starting point.  It would require several steps to get to 6.8 though.  Imo; easier to just buy the correct brass from Silver State Armory.

That's exactly what I was looking for. . .I thought they made brass specifically for the 6.8, I just didn't see it at the local sporting goods store. . .we have a Cabela's about an hour away and I can just make it a point to stock up really well when I'm over that way.

Thanks again!

Good luck finding SSA brass at Cabela's, I've never seen it in either the Lacy or Idaho stores but they should have the ammo. Your best bet is to get it from SSA directly.
