happened to me today and has happened to me before, I'm sure I'm not alone. so looking for some of you more experienced guys advice. what can you do when you walk into a area and before your even close to your stand you get the warning bark? is it game over or is there some tactics to get on those dogs? today i got it in between stands so I'm pretty sure they were coming into my first stand just super slow and they winded me walking to my next spot

i turn aroud and leave. they have seen you heard you or smelled you happens to me in eastern washington. and i call bear bear a Den on the Coast. there alway's just inside the tree's with those sharp bark's. next time i'm there i have a plan it will involve my EXTREMA 2 and dead coyote 3 1/2 shell's. i love hunting by vantage but they can see you in most places. If they bark it is over for me. I am not good enough to get them to change their mind.

Save them for another day.

for me they just dont come in. try in a week and use a wierd sound snowshoe Hare or one of the african sound's. i'm likeing that female wimpering sound. not to loud. from were they cant detect you. watch that darn wind. Rick

yeah i will go back after them probably next week end. they didn't bust me in the stand and i know what area they are traveling so i think all it will take is a little longer in the first area, i called them in the first time i just didn't wait long enough and they busted me on the road

Anybody try a challenge howl, or a territorial howl after busted like that? They might have just seen movement, and not figured out what you are.....

Barking is rude! I try to find them and show them the error in thier ways. 55 grains of nosler shut the hell up! If I can't do that I leave.

Had a old bitch coyote on a ranch that would bust me every time i would start to enter the ranch to call . this was always in the same location on the ranch ( her home territory) . this is what i did to kill her and make my life easier .
This area is like most here in eastern washington , it has high and low ground . if most of you have noticed coyotes move from the lower ( farming areas) to the higher( scab ) during the morning hours . what i did was beat this old bitch to the punch . Bruce Clemmans and i went into this area before dawn and i had bruce position himself at the highest ground he could get to . I positioned myself about 300 yrds below him and began calling with vocals . the bitch came in on the high ground as usual and started her warning barks .I just kept calling and she moved down from the top to about 100 yrds below bruce where he took her . Curt Barret and i had the same thing happen one morning and we used the same tactic . If you read my tips page ( google jerry malbeck) i wrote a piece about Curt and my tactic on there . It can be done and if you have a area that you must be productive on it has to be done or you will no longer be calling that area . get to the high ground with two guys and use your head, and the wind . if the wind isnt right wait for another day.Ther is always a way to get into an area without being busted , it just might require alot of walking to get there without being seen . as i always tell guys when entering a stand location enter like a coyote would use the low ground , the wind, and any vegitation to hide your aproach .

HAHAHA! I think it's great that you take the barking as a personal affront.

If you want the coyote dead and don't care about calling it in, try a spot and stalk. I have done this on many coyotes that continue to bark. They give up their location and give you the opportunity to make a plan, get in position, and just make the shot. If you want to have the excitement of calling, better just leave and try a new sound and new setup. Don't just go the same spot and call from the same stump with the same sound, he/she is on to you.

YEAH,might as well leave for a new stand. however as stated, if you can get up on them, flanking, you might be able to kill it. ya have to flank it, but if they keep barking you just keep stalking, use your binos locate and kill.has worked for me twice.it always seems to be a female, (hmmmmm) they just wont shut up, so makes stalking easier.

The above method really works well with 2 people, 1 person stays where they are and keep the coyote preoccupied while the other does the sneak attack.

I have only had the warning bark a few times. Each time was with an electronic call in a pressured area. Getting off the beaten path with a hand call changed it.

me and gutpile tried to show some coyotes the errors of their barking ways today but they never showed up for their education.

So you guys , how many times have you been able to put the sneak on a barking coyote?
Always with two guys or have you managed to do it all by yourself ? just curious on sucess rate .

Poor success rate I'd probably say about a 20% chance of getting the job done, we really don't get that many dogs that just sit and bark at us but it's always fun to try. I did it once by myself an then a couple of times with 2 people. Also depends on the definition of a sneak, I'm defining it as getting into a position to see the dog and shoot, could be a 300 yd shot. I'd bet if that coyote was only 150 yds or so and out of sight the chances would be about zero.
