Want a new shotgun
« on: December 21, 2009, 03:24:19 AM »
So the title says it all pretty much.  I want a new gun.  Want to buy a new auto 12 gauge.  Seen a few at local shops that have been cheap that have caught my interest, but most of them have been made by companies I had never heard of.  Anytime I see a $324 brand new auto 12 gauge it makes me curious.  I have slowly learned that you really do get what you pay for.  I have learned the hard way many times.  Just ask my wallet.  :(  So I'm looking for the best bang for my buck here.  What do you guys recommend?

my buddy just bought a mercury 12 guage semi auto. it really looks like a benelli. he got it for 245 euros. it shoots nice. we have only put have a case of shells through it so it will need more testing.
"Right now, I am thinking that If my grandmother was here, she would be lecturing me about how there are poor people in Africa, that would just love to have a Ruger, I would just say "Great, granny, lets just ship all the Rugers to Africa!"

A 870 pump.....I know you said auto but the pump is the best bang, and problem free, and as fast as an auto

I agree, a pump is the way to go if you want to save some money. I was looking for a cheap auto also, but ended up buying a pump (stoeger P350). Its an ok gun I guess, when it cycles. It tends to jam if i try to work the action too fast :chuckle: :bash:.

I picked up a Charles Daly Youth 20ga auto after giving my 870 Youth to my granddaughter.  I spent the summer shooting trap and skeet withit, then off to CO to kill some beaver damming irragation ditches, then MT for sharptails and huns, and back here to WA for ducks and pheasants.  It has handled everything just fine light steel and lead target loads (nearly 3 cases so far), 3" 1oz steel loads and heavy Buckshot without a burp.

I painted the stock, didn't like the all black look.

After the first shot the rest are just noise.

walmart had the semi-auto remington 11-87 full camo for a great deal brand new.i think it was $530ish.    also i was looking at those tristar semi-autos  those seem to get some decent reviews from readers and users.  i ended up buying another 870.  what can i say it works and i like them.

All good points, except I'm not getting a benelli vinci.  An 870 may not be a bad way to go.  Will they take 3 1/2 inch shells as well?  I need a good all around gun.

If you trully want to "get what you paid for" and you want a semi-auto, then buy a Benelli Super Black eagle, either look for a used 1st model, or buy one of the new one's.  You'll never look back.
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.
If I ageed with you, then we'd both be wrong.

Just seconding opinions here, but yes you get what you pay for.  If you really want a good semi-auto, I don't think $350 is going to hack it.  Love my Beretta (Extema 2), but its a $1000 gun.  You can get a Remy 11-87 for maybe 700.  But expect to nudge the grand mark for a Beretta, Browning or Benelli that can handle 3 1/2 in shells.  If price is the determinant, then get a solid pump like an 870 (total workhorse) or a Benelli Nova and you'll have a long-lasting, good-performing gun.  If you try to economize too much, I think you'll have a while to regret it.
