Grande Ronde
« on: December 26, 2009, 10:46:23 PM »
Anyone been down lately for steelhead.  I went today up below wells dam on the upper columbia with my dad and brother and we caught 2 wild fish between the three of us.  Fished for about four hours.  Mine was about 4lbs and my brothers was pushing 10lbs.  Want to go down south on the ronde and was curious how the fishing is.  Anyone?

My brother has been out there a few times over the last two weeks and has been hitting them pretty regularly. My buddy brought two home from the Grande Ronde just the other day too. Sounds like it's pretty good right now.

That is exactly what I wanted to hear!  I will be down there this weekend regardless.  Do you know whether they are fishing the upper or lower parts of the river?  I haven't been up to the upper parts of the river, up near bogans but I will probably make my way up that way this weekend.

Know some people that were hitting it a couple weeks ago and were doing really well, they mainly fish the upper river near bogans and surrounding areas.  Let me know how you do i'm planning a trip down there mid January.

Well I went down friday and saturday.  Went up near bogans on friday and the river has alot of ice on it.  Too much for me to fish.  Went down to the lower stretch near the mouth.  Not as much ice, but that depends on where.  Above the county bridge, you have about a mile or so of water you can get to, then its all ice pretty much.  The ice was melting while I was there, so there was quite a bit of ice floating down the river.  Fishing was slow for me.  Didn't see anyone else with any fish either.  Saw a few rising on friday, and had a couple solid hits on saturday but no fish.

I didn't see your question until today.... would have told you about the ice had I seen it sooner.

Oh well.  It was still nice to get away for the weekend.  I'll head back down once the ice is gone.  Good scenery down there at least.

Call bogans oasis, they are good at giving updated fishing reports and river info so it will save you a trip if the river is iced over.  You can find their number online.

There's also a guide that I can talk to that will give me some info.  Used him this spring for small mouth down there.  Pretty cool guy.
