Cabelas tents
« on: January 13, 2008, 08:21:32 PM »
I'm in the market for a new wall tent but I want to keep the weight down. I am looking at the Alagnak 2 in 12x12 or the big horn 12x14. Has anyone used them or own on? Looking for opinions.

I have the alaknak 12x with the vestibule. if you get it DO get the roof liner. as for the floor, I use a silver tarp or whit canvas. I like the reflective value they offer and it makes clean up a snap. I have nothing bad to say about it. it does good in the wind and weather, the price is right and the stove keeps it toasty.

A buddy of mine (unfortunately no longer with us) had the Alaknak w/vestibule.  Very nice setup and quick to put up and take down.  Have watched him more than once take off for an evening scouting hike with one of the crew after getting it all set up while me and the rest of the bunch finished rigging the flies on my Montana canvas wall tent.  His was 12 x 12 with 4 foot side walls I believe, and he used it in extreme cold in Montana a few times.  His opinion was the same as High Country's - it stayed nice and warm with the small collapsible stove he used.
