So I am looking into buying a T/C Encore Pro Hunter. I like many things about the guns and think they will suit me well.
My question has to do with the barrels offered. These are the calibers I am interested in:
.204 Ruger
22-250 Rem
.243 Win
.270 Win
.300 Win Mag
Is there an optimum barrel length for these calibers? Thompson offers them in 24", 26" and the fluted 28" barrel lengths.
I like the fluted stainless the best but is length a big deal when looking into these cartridges? Any help on the subject would be greatly appreciated.

Do some net searchs there is alot of info.I have been looking at this and that gun myself.
It 'seems' that the more over bore the cartridge the more it benefits from a longer barrel, within limits. Slow powders also have impact.
Go to Mike Bellams site and look at his info. he has done a couple experiments cutting barrels down and checking velocity loss. He knows about TC also.
A lot of guns like around 22-24 inches any longer is just friction on the bullet slowing it down. A 22 rifle longer than 16 inch just slows down the bullet, a sub-sonic 22 only needs 6 inchs of barrel.
I am thinking 24-26 inch encore barrel for 22-250 and the 28inch pro barrel in 300WM.

one of the cool things about the 300 win mag is the 28" barrel...real long for lots of powder burn time.
i don't think you need the longer barrels for the other calibers...
the thing i think you gotta remember(i might be making this up) is that the chamber length is part of the barrel length...so the "barrel" is really not as long as it says it is because part of it is the chamber. not sure if this makes sense or not but it's a minor thing i've been contemplating in my head. i could be completely off base here.
my 28" 300 barrel shoots 1 ragged hole at 100 if i do my part with the handloads i am shooting.

I sugest some trigger work as well kinda rough , I like the heavy 7mm barrel

i agree with coachcw the triggers are a bit ruff little creepy. as far as barrel i always say longer is better

I think that the Factory lengths are pretty much ideal for the given calibers. An Encore with a short barrel just doesn't balance well IMO. They're already pretty compact guns, so a 24-28" barrel doesn't feel as long as it sounds. That 28" 300 WM barrel would give you extra length to use a slower burning powder.

Look at Bergera Barrels for an affordable alternative. Still accurate. I have 2 and they shoot great.
I used to get awesome Contender deals on ebay, but they've quit doing gun stuff since I've gone to the Encore. Peruse the GunsAmerica and GunBroker sites though, often used deals are there to be had...

Thanks for the information guys. I am taking it all in so keep it coming. I have found quite a bit online about these guns but like everything on the web much of it conflicts. Some guys love em, some hate them, some triggers are world class out of the box, some suck. I guess I will see what I get when it arrives!
Does the rifle flextech forearm fit with the regular encore barrel or just the 28" prohunter barrel?
Thanks again guys. In another post someone mentioned a T/C Encore get together. That would be nice to try other barrels and pick the brain of more experienced T/C users.

if you want to do any aftermarket upgrade stuff. their hinge pins seem to be a pretty popular upgrade. i have done nothing to mine aside from shoot it(got it used), and i also have never even had the barrel off to swap. i also have a .22-250 barrel for it and i am gonna take it apart one of these nights and put that one on and get it ready to shoot some yotes.
