Help me buy a gun!!
« on: December 30, 2009, 11:40:19 AM »
Im looking to get a new rifle and happened to fall across the winchester M70 coyote light.  Looks like a nice rifle but would like some first hand knowledge from anyone who happens to own one.  Another rifle that has my eye is the weatherby vanguard black sub-moa.  Any info guys?  I can't make up my mind so maybe some of you on here can. :dunno:
thanks for your help and happy new year.

A buddy of mine used to have the sub-moa in 22-250. it was a pretty good shooter. I dont know anything about the Winchester that you mentioned.  What caliber are you thinkin about buying?

The Winchester Coyotes were some of the last rifles to come off the Win production line before they closed their doors.  Some have had accuracy problem, I hear it on the net with the 223 WSSM most, it is a very nice gun though.  If you could shoot it before you buy it that would be nice.  With the Weatherby/Howa at least you'd have factory backing.

After the first shot the rest are just noise.

either 243 or 257 wby mag.  Im leaning toward 243.  The 257 bullets are expensive.  I reload so it would cost me more up front to get started with the 257.

you can form 257 out of 7mm rem w/o trimming or any of the others but you will have to trim.....sans the 338win

As long as you know what your doing, losing 2" is not that big of a deal... just ask littlebuf... although the jury is still out on him knowing what he is doing, from what I hear

i wouldn't pay extra for a sub-moa vanguard  :twocents: my 257 roy with some handloads shot under an inch out of the box and it is not a sub-moa.
it is expensive to shoot, which is why it went away. i do not reload.  :'(

I have the weatherby vanguard stainless in 257wby. Shoots excellent and yeah its expensive but it makes you shoot a little better too. I have burned twice as much or better ammo with my 22-250 and probably have the same number of dogs with each one.
