Steelhead on the east side
« on: January 02, 2010, 09:49:39 PM »
Any good rivers on the east side with good bank access?  I've been to the Snake, Grande Ronde, and Columbia.  I'm looking for something smaller than the Columbia or Snake.  Something that can be fished from shore obviously.  Anyone know of anything east of the Columbia?

I just got back from there this weekend.  Lots of ice on the river, where are you fishing?  Are you fly fishing or what?  I saw a few fish rising, only had 2 solid bites both days I was there.
Anyone know anything about the Tucannon?

I was down on the snake this weekend above lower granite and did ok. I caught 1 wild and 1 keeper, both were in the 6 lb. range. I think overall the fishing was pretty good. Saw a group of guys down the bank from me reel in about 7 or 8 fish. One they had in particular was probaby in the 12-15 lb. range. Heres the one i kept!

Sounds like a good day to me.  I just need to find some ways to get out of the house.  Steelhead is getting addicting.  Ice fishing would be easier, but panfish and small trout do not compare to steelhead.

You will be hard pressed finding anything better then the snake or Columbia right now. Most of the smaller fisheries are froze up or have a lot of Ice floating.  That is the case around this area.
Will hunt for food.

most of the guys i know, me included are staying on the big rivers not so much because of ice but because of the more "liberal" limits on the big water  :dunno: i will call some guys today and ask about the tucannon and post later

I am told the Tucannon and N Touchet are doing pretty well but seem to be all smaller fish, 4-7 lbs or so. which is really about the norm for out there. friend told me he hooked five fish, landed 4, 2 keepers. there ya go, thats all i know  :dunno:
