Youth fishing
« on: January 23, 2010, 07:00:54 PM »
My daughter has been bugging me to "get up before the sun" and go fishing.
I saw recently that they planted 3000+ "catchables" in Ft. Borst, so we are gonna get up and go see if we can catch some planters
It is a Youth only lake, open until the end of February, so what the heck. :dunno:

If there is 3000+ catchables in that lake.....
We tried a worm 3 feet under a bobber, increased it to 6 feet, tried power bait, green, pink, orange, rainbow .....same from 3 feet to 6 feet off the bottom.
Then I tried "blowin' a worm" 3 feet and 6 feet off the bottom., used herring oil and shrimp oil.
4 fishing rods 1 each way ( 2 with worm under bobber 3' and 6' 1 with power bait 3' and one with floating worm 6 feet off bottom) only lost 1/2 worm and some power bait (?) no noticeable bites.
If there is 3000 fish in that 3 1/2 acre lake, I would be surprised that at least ONE of them isn't stupid enough to bite! :bash:
Oh well the girls still had a good time eating snacks and getting rained on  :chuckle:

Borst, as in at Fort Borst State Park off of exit 82 in Centralia, youth only water and according to WDFW planted with 3000+ "catchables on Dec. 28th (????)
I need to find another spot soon, or figure out what the deal is.
I don't want her to get discouraged.

I think its great that both my daughters get up a lot easier to go fishing than they do for school :chuckle:

Need to do like I did with my kids when they were young. When the weather warms some. I would take a day off mid week, and not tell the kids. I'd wake them up early and tell them "come on we's playing HOOKIE TODAY". Make it a big deal for them. Funny thing is my boss would ask where I was headed and would showup with his 2 girls! keeps the kids interested in fishing ;)
Take a kid hunting or fishing, Pass it on, it's not yours to keep!
