Elk auction this morning
« on: January 26, 2008, 07:21:21 AM »
Anybody watching it on RFDTV @ 8:30 this morning?  Thought it would be interesting to see how much they go for, and where the buyers are from.  Not promoting or slamming, just curious.

What are they biddding on them for?  Antlers?  Sounds to me like they are gonna strengthen their own herds for hunting?  Anyone have some insight?

They sold sawed off antlers earlier for up to $1000 set. :o  Don't think their buying for a hobby herd.  So far 2 main buyers.  Somebody is gonna be paying to hunt em?  Trying to keep a running tab on the sales, your distracting me :chuckle:, lost track on a couple.

Well the auction closed with 105 bull elk sold for approx $440,000.00 (I lost track on a couple).  That's an average of $4,200.00  Appears to be a little money in it.  What's an average steer sell for on the hoof?  Then figure the antlers, semen, etc.  Not argueing for or against, but on the busines side, appears to be an incentive. :dunno:

Someone told me buyers actually go to that ranch where the auction was held and shoot them. Kind of the second hand lion affect. Anyone see that movie. :chuckle:

They usually are no good to sell after I put the tag on them.  This catch and NOT release thing might be sort of hard at first.  Funny thing is, the cows carry the same amount of genetic material for the job, and they are a whole lot cheaper.
