what do you think this is?  i hike this trail every week.  this wasn't there last week.  sap is running down it and there are about 8 to 10 trees along the trail that look like this.  looks a little high on the tree but I don't know.  thoughts?

Someone is blazing the trail it looks like to me.  Someone must of read a mountain man book before a hike.

the trail is a horse trail so it is pretty beat into the ground already.  i guess somebody could be marking it for some reason.

I would agree that it is a blaze. And an old one at that.
