Looking for a place to hunt on the Westside.....
« on: February 01, 2010, 12:04:35 AM »
I'm in a bit of a pickle... I'm stuck in Seattle for the next two days while my wife and sister hang out downtown.  I want no part of that...

While trying to plot a solo predator hunt for tomorrow, I was trying to think of some public land that I used to go shoot at when I lived here, and all of the places I know of are now subdivisions.  So I went on the WDFW site looking for land and came up with two areas in King county.  Both are less than 500 acres and they don't really seem big enough to shoot a rifle in.  They are stillwater and cherry valley.  Does anyone know if these places are good to go for predator hunting?  Sorry, I'm new to this whole public land thing, I really don't know where to find legal hunting ground.

If anyone knows about these areas, or knows of a better place, let me know.  (include directions)

Thanks

Shane

If the areas you are talking about are managed by WDFW I believe they are open for waterfowl hunting with shotguns only, with non lead shot heavily enforced.
I'm certain of this for the Tualco hunting area, just north of Duvall.
To hunt with a rifle in this area your best bet is probably to find DNR land.

Yes I-90 to Denny Creek exit make a right and head up to Hansen Creek, not sure of snow level though.  Lots of clearcuts as you make your way up the mountain.  I think the road number is the 5510.

I would reccomend getting out of the city a little farther. The local police really frown on folks blowing on distress calls near a starbucks and  most of the coyotes in town there have the mange something awful.

Just go a little farther than Cherry Valley. There is state land, timber co. land, national forest land. Coyote poop all over the place.

Thanks guys, I ended up trying capital forest yesterday.  Reminded me why I hate hunting the west side, too damn thick!  I'll give those places a try next time over.

CF also gets a lot of traffic. Its not just vehicle traffic either, there are too many illegal atv riders out there while its closed for the winter. That place never sleeps. Im sure there are places that produce, but just dont have the energy to figure out where they are in there.
