Getting private property permission

In all of your experience, is it difficult to get landowner permission to hunt their land?  Which is easier, the landowner that lives on or near the property or the one that owns 500 acres but they live in Minnesota?  Is it easier to get permission in Eastern Washington or Western Washington?

Bow hunting is pretty easy...  on the wet side... all the deer live close to the houses anyway.

Sorry, I meant modern firearm.  I have a large heard of Blacktail in my neighborhood too.  HOA won't let me shoot them though

You've got lot's of time between now and September.  I'd get a bow and start shooting.  Bowhunters always have an easier time getting permission.

in eastern washington it really varies on private property permission. some areas ppl are more than welcome to let you hunt and others will run you off the property.

Ive noticed in eastern was it was fairly easy. I asked about 10 property owners, and received permission to hunt 6 of them. This was for rifle. The problem I noticed was that they let everyone and there brother hunt as well. My public land places were less crowded.

That's a potential problem I see.  I am hoping to stumble across a property owner that will let me on their land and limit the number of other hunters.  Pipe dream, I know.

You just have to find the right people. I've found a few (early on, far before most people usually think about asking for permission) that limit the numbers, or simply let me hunt.
I always say... the worst they can do is say "no"... I've only had one really terrible experience, and it wasn't bad enough to deter me from asking others in the future.

like said archery is easier to get permission than modern or muzzle, also i know from being a land owner myself that some people ask to just hunt does i don't know what you are after horns or meat but if its meat i say you have 90% chance to find a good place to hunt if you are after monsters you have allot less chance. hope this helps.

I'm after my 8 year olds first kill.  Period.  If I take one also, that's gravy but, not a priority.  I think that will work in my favor too.

Also, will a nice letter explaining things and asking permission be acceptable?  I live in Western Washington and I am 99% sure we are going to hunt in Eastern Washington.  Kind of hard to knock on a lot of doors that are that far away.

yeah it may, but allot less personal. a letter is very generic as well and most land owners will just throw it away they like to meet people to judge what they think of them. anyone can write a letter or have one wrote from them. i would find some land owners then take your kid with you for a trip and meet some people face to face you will have better chances  also with your kid there it shows that you intend to have them hunt allot of people us a kid to get access to ground and the kid never gets to hunt allot of people around here have been burned by giving a kid permission only to have dad or gpa shoot the deer for the kid. just get some people in mind and make a trip i think you will do allot better once again coming from a land owner.

Some will have to be letters as the land owners live in Minnesota or Alaska

I don't think you will have a problem getting permision for your kid to shoot a deer. I know I would have a hard time telling an 8 year old no.

Buy a crossbow for the ones in your yard! no noise can still use during modern firearm season...
