My wife's first hunt.

I need some help please.  My wife is taking her Hunter's safety course right now, and she wants to go deer hunting with me this year.  The only problem is that I am still a fairly new hunter myself.  I have bean hunting for 4 years and have yet to see a legal animal, plenty of elk during deer season and deer during elk season.  I want my wife's first trip to be a good experience.  We will be doing most of our hunting during the Modern Rifle Late buck season.  I am looking for someone who would be willing to help us out and point us in the right direction.  We are open to just about any part of the state.  Thanks for your input.

Oh and I promise that she will get the first shot at any deer we see.

That sounds right for rifle season in WA.. My experience has shown that rifle season is more about luck just finding an animal. I have been lucky to harvest some bucks and does but I sure put my time in for them and hunted during the late hunts. I switched to archery and have been having tons more fun and see game nearly every time out.

Get her started by applying for special permits.

Yeah, have her apply for some doe tags in the NE or down in blacktail country if you want her to have some success, if she gets pulled for a doe tag that makes things a lot simpler.

If you are willing to drive to Northeast Washington, I know some spots that generally produce deer. It won't be an "easy" hunt but if you are ready to hike a bit then I can give you a few general areas to check out.

Thanks for the input.  I am willing to try just about anywhere in the state, and we will be putting in for doe tags. Anything and everything that I can think of to improve the odds for her.

You want her to have a good experience and enjoy herself you need to make sure she is warm, dry and comfortable the whole time. Same with kids, any of these go south and you are likely to lose them from ever wanting to go again.

very good advice. and make sure she enjoys just being out in the woods. seeing and harvesting an animal is just a bonus. like the other guys said, put in for doe tags. if you get pulled and she doesnt make sure she is with you when you are out, i know i enjoy seeing my hunting partners take a shot just as much if not more than myself.
