Lick Creek
« on: April 05, 2010, 07:16:22 AM »
I took a drive up into the Lick Creek unit on saturday. Made it about 6 miles in from the National Forest boundary off of the Peola Road before I decided I didn't want to chain up or risk getting stuck. I turned around where the truck tires ended and the snowmobile tracks continued. I don't know the elevation where I was at but maybe around 4k feet. a mile or 2 past the turnoff for the Big Spring campground. This is a lot of access compared to the last 2 years where I couldn't even make it to the boundary. 2 years ago I couldn't make it there on the turkey opener.
Anyway, there was a pretty fair amount of snow up there where I stopped....maybe a foot or so and there was some new snow from Friday night.
I haven't heard of anybody on here with a Lick Creek tag but figured I'd share what I had.

Thanks for the info. I have a lick creek tag, and plan on going over this weekend to scout. I have been wondering about the snow up there though. I might go in from Asotin. Any idea how far up one can get from there. Thanks - Jeremy

I imagine you'll get a good amount of ground covered from the Asotin side. My thought was to run from peola around to the 40 road. that didn't happen obviously.
You've still got a couple weeks so you will hopefully lose some snow over there.
good luck and keep us posted on your hunt!

My wife drew Lick Creek also.  We'll be up there every weekend due to her not having any vacation.  How is the turkey hunting pressure in that area?  I am kind of concerned about running into people everywhere we go.

Thanks again for the info. I will be going down there on saturday and will let you guys know how it is from the Asotin side. BLRman I had this tag in 2005 and we did not see many people, a few turkey hunters and only a couple bear bunters. It's a big unit and once we get into may there should be more room for everyone to roam. I did talk to a biologist on monday, he said it should be a great spring for bear hunting. He also said bears are starting to come out now. He did mention, however that there is not a large amount of bears in  Lick Creek. I think we are going to have to work hard to get a few out of there. Good luck -Jeremy
