a question on red worms vs white
« on: April 09, 2010, 06:20:56 PM »
Does anybody know what the deal is with red worms vs white ones? When I was a kid my dad always said that the fish didn't like the white ones so we never picked them up. I did try them once however and never got a bit soooooo I was wondering if there is anything to it, or is it just an old wives tale.

Never seen a white worm...I do think it would look un-natural to a fish. Although I have had luck on white grub jigs... :dunno:

My old man called them white worms because they didn't have the dark color that red worms have. After a rain you will see them everywhere on the surface, and they look pale and very skinny compared to the red ones.

I think the "white" ones were almost dead, drowned from being in the rain.  I might be wrong....  They sure do not live long if you do find a live one.

True but that's not it, as I have personally dug them up before, and they were fatter than the ones you guys are talking about, but still not that lively. I knolw that it's a different species of worm or something. I might have to go find more info elswhere.

Are we talking earth worm versus compost worms? This is what I have always called them.... Anywhoo, I prefer earth worms as the compost worms with the striped bodies are too darned stinky and skank up my hands. The earthworms are fatter too, easier to put on the hook IMHO.
