shorter barrels are more accurate 99.9% of the time.

Not quite.  Ask anyone who shoots 600+ meters if shorter barrels are "99.9%" better.

ummmm

:fire.:

" In today's instant gratification society, more and more pressure revolves around success and the measurement of one's prowess as a hunter by inches on a score chart or field photos produced on social media. Don't fall into the trap. Hunting is-and always will be- about the hunt, the adventure, the views, and time spent with close friends and family. " Ryan Hatfield

Do you think a 26" barrel is necessary for all the long action mag cal. ???

only if portability is more important then velocity. shorter barrels are more accurate 99.9% of the time.

I read a real interesting article in a gunsmithing magazine years ago. They started with a 24" .308 and knocked an inch off the barrel and recrowned, shooting over a chrony and groups. They did it until the barrel was down to 14", they published the velocity differences which was to be expected. What wasn't expected was the accuracy differences were slim to none. Barrel length has little to do with accuracy. A custom rifle (barrel) should be built to the optimum length for velocity.

Steyr Prohunter is the best in my opinion.

The above link is for a new one right at $900.  You can probably find one for less than $900 if you look around a bit.
May I always be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.

how many guys shoot 3 weight barrels at 600 meters. in a heavy barrel the stiffness is there to support barrel harmonics, in a lightweight barrel the shorter it is the stiffer it is. it is slower, but typically more accurate. but what do I know.
