North Skagit Gates/Access/Info?
« on: April 18, 2010, 04:03:20 PM »
So..

I went out to the DNR area and was hoping someone could help me rifine my search.

As I went out to what seems like the main access area closest to the damage area some roads seemed poorly marked. First, the only gate I could find where my key worked was off Scott Pipe road which goes up the backside. The other road next to the cowboy camp is locked with several different locks, none of which the key works.

Am I accessing the right area? I am entering off of Hamilton Cemetery Rd. The Map coincides with some of the logging roads that are poorly marked.

Also... are we allowed to bring our vehicles into this area or forced to hoof it on foot?

You are in the right area..

The Scott Paper road is the mainline gate. It has the big red gate next to the small shack. On the gate the lock has "DNR" in front on the lock housing written in black. That is the lock to use f1-3 is the lock number.

The area near cowboy camp was unlocked yesterday. Unless you are talking about the gate behind the gun shooting pit or something else which is not obvious to me. You will not get a key for the area behind the pits. There are several gates which you will not have a key for. I talked with the security guy out yesterday and confirmed with him several specific areas I had in mind.

You can also access off the Helmick Road and I have not gone down by Grandy Lake yet but probably will next time. Today looks much better than yesterday. I didn't see any bears yet. Saw lots of greens growing.

Not sure what area you are talking about. You'll have to be more specific. Everything inside the mapped boundaries are what I am going to hunt. If I see a good spot behind a gate which I do not have a key to then I will take a bike or walk. I don't get the impression the timber companies mind as long as I stay out of their way and be mindful of their property, business and wishes.
