Checked the cameras last weekend
« on: April 27, 2010, 02:37:55 PM »
About a month ago my buddy and I hauled in three trail cameras into a deep nasty hole in the forest. We were thinking this area was heavily used by the elk and especially as a refuge when the ‘hunters’ invaded the woods. We are using the cameras as an excuse to find a decent access in and out of the area and to stay in a little better shape. Besides we might get some great photos. So far, based on the routes we took, access sucks! The cameras were in for five weeks last Saturday when we went to change batteries and switch out the memory cards. I am recovering from a bout of Pneumonia two weeks ago and had one heck of a time getting myself in and out of this dang area. These first few pictures are courtesy of my buddy’s camera, aka “bmf.”

These pictures are from the Echomule camera. The first photo shows the mounted camera.

This series is hilarious. We had taken in some bacon grease and smeared it on a dead pole in front of the camera hoping to get a few bear pictures. What we got was a coyote that was determined that something very good was just out of his reach. The grease must be working as intended, I guess there were just no bears around for the last month. This coyote was around for about five hours that one morning and came back a number of days to check on it again.

Here are pics from my buddies camera aka “Papabear.” When we were about 100 yards away from this camera, we jumped a herd of elk. Checking the photos later we learned that they were in front of the camera about an hour before and were just hanging out in the area. The first photo is not from the trail cam, but my little handheld camera. I was able to sneak in to about 50 feet from this girl before another cow next to her decided to bolt, pretty cool.
