Late season, they'll still act to a call, I try and not do so much on the real aggressive stuff, for they are getting wary of fighting each other and other hunters, but I always start off soft in case there is a bird close by but I will get out and get loud on occasion to try and find a recpetive Tom. My season last couple years didn't start getting good until Mother's day weekend, and I hunt almost exclusively public ground. They'll work, but if you're still seeing toms with multiple hens, that tom really has no reason to gobble. And the Jakes it can be a few things, one if they com investigate I'm sure a painful memory from the last time they gobbled or came into a call that all they got was a butt whoopin from another Tom. I'tll still be worth it to take your Daughter out for a lot of reasons, I took my Daughter out last year during the weekend of May 15-16 time frame and we were in birds all weekend, had a strutter at 20 yards( But in a bad position) then she called the same bird in for me and I missed him

But she had a great time and heard plenty of gobbling.
