Turkey gods like me again!!!!!!!
« on: May 10, 2010, 07:22:49 PM »
It has been one of those turkey season's that I think every turkey hunter has experienced at least once.  I just could not close the deal to save my life!  I have easily put on over a hundred miles so far this turkey season, 25 of which was this weekend.  Saturday there were birds gobbling at squirrels, woodpeckers, crows, semi trucks on the highway, but a hen call not a chance.  I pulled all my hair out and now am completely bald.  Sunday started out the same way.  Its a 3.5 mile hump just to get up to the area where I start to hunt so that involves a 4 a.m. take off time from the trailer to be in there before the pitch out.  I got the run around all morning until about 10 a.m. when I found a bird I hadn't heard before.  It took an act of god to get him to come in but I got er done.  On my way down the mountain I heard my big old 3 year old gobbling his brains out from his oak flat strut zone and he was hot so I made my move on him.  I got set up and the battle was on.  After about an hour he finally broke and started my way gobbling about every 15 seconds then silence.  About a minute later movement to my right catches my eye and there in a clearing is a big ass cougar.  I've never seen one that clearly out in the open like that.  What a cool animal.  I turkey called at him and he stopped and stared for what seemed like forever.  I added another 14.7 miles to the gps trip meter when it was all said and done.  It was one hell of a day in the turkey woods.

Well done and well earned ... once again patience and persistence are the keys to success.  Means more when its not quick and easy, and always makes for better memories!  Well done ...

I dont think there was much hair there to pull out. Nice bird though. Now you need to take me down there and call in that old Tom. I will put him to rest.  :chuckle:
