Need suggestions for a place to take my 6 and 4 year olds fishing
«

Admittedly, I'm not much of a fisherman but I'd like to start doing it as my kids really love it. I live in Vancouver and would ideally like to find a place that isn't too far away. Any suggestions?
Thanks guys.

Check with the City and with the County. Parks and Rec or something. Not realistic, no. Way too easy, yes. But stocked public ponds are a great way to keep kids' attention. Mine (4 and 6) are absolute fishing fanatics because of the City pond. Now they'll fish anywhere, for anything, no matter how slow it is... and the park pond is responsible for addicting them.

Washingtonlakes.com.
I've had some pretty good luck with that site.

Hey Adams, if you find a place give me a shout. Austin would probably enjoy tagging along with your kids too.

Mine are 4 and 6 too. Anyone heard of / know about Lacamas Lake in Camas?
Thanks for the suggestions. NWTFhunter, I'll let you know what I come up with.

Lacamas Lake has two boat launches. One on the southeast side and one on the north. For bank fishing the south side has a trail along the lake for access until you get into private land. It's fairly well marked. The north side has patches right along side the road for bank fishing but a steeper bank and not the best place for young children. Or if you don't mind being closer to people while fishing you can try the southeast arm across from the Moose Lodge where Lacamas flows into Round Lake. There's free parking across the street from the lake there and the park itself is a nice place for a picnic or the kids to play if they get tired of fishing. Heck, they can fish right in round Lake too. Haven't been to Battleground Lake in a while. Very pretty place with good bank access. My kids have pulled fish from both when they were younger. Then there's Klienline Pond along Salmon Creek just west of I-5 where they highway crosses over the creek. Tons of bank access.

Great info!
Thanks. I think we'll try Round lake / Lacamas first and then maybe Klineline pond.

would have to agree the park at lacamas is nice and would be a good trip for the little ones. Several different type of fish to be had there bass, bluegill, catfish, your rainbow and brown trout.

yeah hit up the walakes but there are a couple places near you. Battleground is just fine for kids, but I think Klineline pond is kids only and stocked on a regular basis to keep it hot.

worms typically work anywhere, but you can check the WDFW site for the lakes that have been recently stocked.
if you are fishing for trout that were recently stocked, they eat anything. easiest setup for kids if you can find where the trout are schooling, is just power bait on a very small worm hook. use like a 12-18" leader to your swivel and either split shots or worm weights so that the weight sits on the bottom and the power bait floats the hook up about 12+ inches. I have caught sooo many stocker trout that way.
talk to the locals, they'll know where the stocked trout are schooling. Once you figure that out you can get a limit in 30 minutes. Might try the walakes guys for some cheater lake info for the kids. but I am betting klineline is a sure thing.

Klineline pond is open to adults and children, klineline is stocked regularly, its almost a sure bet catch fish. lacamas and round lake suck for fishing from the bank, never have any luck there for trout unless trolling in a boat, Battle Ground is also a good bet for catching fish.

Like Jason mentioned, Klineline is better from the bank than Lacamas. It is also a safer environment for your kids. I used to take the kids there before getting a boat, seems we had the best luck with powerbait and bobber.
