Flyfishing for trout near Potholes

Hello all.   Im going to be in the Potholes area around the middle of July for a week,  Im a die hard flyfishing guy,  Mainly Steelhead, summer/winter for washington.  Anyone want to share any insight possibly if you have any for the area around the Potholes.  I checked out the maps around the area.  I know theres alot of water.  But where to go.  Streams, a plus

You can try to fish Crab Creek but it can be tricky to find access. I don't know of any way to do it specifically but there are fish there.
A lot of the little lakes in the refuge have fish in them but the water gets warm and the fish go down and stay down...Quail Lake used to be great...not sure what it is any more and you have a short-ish hike to get into it. It's not a huge drive to Rocky Ford creek but in mid-July the weeds are a bitch there.
You could try some bass fly fishing...that's a great time if you can get on some fish.

rocky ford creek is the one that immediately comes to mind.  not sure how it is in august, but it's known for some really big, but educated rainbows.   check the regs, it's got some really weird rules(like no wading allowed).

Crab creek and Rocky Ford come to mind first.

If you have a small boat or don't mind a walk the winchester wasteway has some damn big browns in it.  I'm not sure about the frenchman wasteway.

I'm not sure Rocky Ford is open that time of year.  Seems they close it to protect the fish. (They get stressed easy and die (catch and release) when the water temps are so high.....

PS, watch for snakes.  They are highly aggressive and don't buzz much in August. (end of July through the month of)

Rocky Ford is open year round, doesn't close, but gets ridiculously choked with weeds which makes the fishing very difficult plus the water gets kinda warm too...the thing that helps it is that it's a spring creek so the water doesn't get too warm...the weeds suck though, a lot.

thats no BS about the snakes, holy mackeral, i went to rockyford one early july day a while back and the entire foot path was covered with snakes bull or blow snakes with rattlers mixed in, i even saw snakes underwater hunting thru the rocks, really freaked me out. as i walked down the path, the snakes would leave and then return as i passed by as if they were trained. i still fished as scared *censored*less as i was, but didnt fish long. good luck, remember dont suck out the poison, lol. and have a nice day

I'd go looking for carp, sight fishing the flats for 10-20lb fish, it may change your life.

they are trained, all the people that fish it have them conditioned.
