Need help finding
« on: June 01, 2010, 08:21:29 PM »
I am looking for an O/U shotgun for my wife. She is bout 5'4 and 125 lbs. She can handle recoil pretty well but due to her size the shotgun needs to be a little shorter. I am wide open as to options, but would like to purchase a nice gun for her that she can use for some time. She will mostly use the gun for clay pigeons and she already shoots around a 12-14 with my benelli that is way to large for her. I have around a month to find this so here goes! thanks for the help in advance

The Mossbergs are pretty good if your not wanting to spend a whole lot. The CZ is very nice one of my hunting buddies has one and I will be adding one to my collection also.

This would be a good option.  Then tape the stock and cut it down.
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!

Good advice so far..  If she will be getting more serious about the clay target game, spend the money and go to something like the 686 Beretta or one of the smaller frame Brownings .  Good luck and let us know what you get.

The reduced length would be what length? Do you think it will be enough? I really like the CZ as an option

the cz standard length is about 14" the barrel of the reduced length redhead is 24" might make the gun balance better for her since its shorter

I don't know if you have any experience with the Baikal guns but they are tough and reliable from what I have seen, I own an SPR453 (Baikal MP153) and my only complaint was that the recoil pad was hard so I changed the pad for a Limbsaver. From what I have read about the Baikal breech loaders, you might want to trim the ejector spring to make the action a little easier to operate, it seems to be a common thing to do on them.
The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.

MP153 is an Auto loader look at the O/Us not bad I have them in .410, 28, 20 and 12 GA. I shoot a 153 when hunt ducks in saltwater. The nice thing about them is price and they do have a spacer in the but pad to reduce length. And if you have to cut it shorteryou are not out 1K or better :twocents:
