Wallowa Lake yielding monster fish with new unofficial world-record kokanee

JOSEPH -- A story began circulating a couple of decades ago that Wallowa Lake was inhabited by a monster.

It was all tongue in cheek, of course, but the gem-like northeastern Oregon lake now has lots of monsters called kokanee. Over the weekend, Ron Campbell  of Pendleton pulled in a behemoth kokanee more than 27 inches long and tipping the scales at 9.67 pounds, an unofficial world record.
