cat trapping
« on: June 15, 2010, 05:36:00 PM »
Well I've been doing a little cat trapping around my house. Its not that I'm opposed to people having pets, just keep them home! The cats are so thick that I think they had to take numbers to crap in my flowerbeds :bash: The final straw was cat piss in my car that was in the garage ( see my car in my avitar, 23 T bucket). Well the live trap works well baited with rollmop Herring. I've got 3 so far. All legal, taking them to the wonderful humane society. They even remove them from the trap :tung: If the owner comes to claim  them, they had to buy them back. If not, the humane society has to spend their animal loving money on all these cats. Sounds like a win win situation to me, either the owners that cant keep their pets at home, or the humane society spending advertising money. I told the girls behind the counter that they will know me on a first name basis by the time I get the neighborhood thinned out.
Years ago I had a buddy that live trapped cats and he would pastel tiger stripe spray paint. Man, if a Guy got caught doing that these days, he'd be screwed

Problem is - once one of those house cats get in a cage, they figure it out and you generally won't get them to go in it again. Once the kitty gets back home, the owner will let it out again and it will venture over to your place again and enjoy pooping and peeing all over the place. The problem can continue with most cats when they are brought back. The major problem is the owners. Cage them and take them somewhere and turn them in. When you get it figured out, let us know.

A large trash bag over the trap and a shot of starting fluid saves a trip to the society.
I have heard some local restaurants might take them.

just spray them down with a hose for a minute, as much as cats love water you wont ever see them back again

Just got back from dropping off cat number 5. The girls working the intake counter know me on a first name basis. I asked her if anybody has claimed any that I've brought up yet.She said that the first 4 had to be put humanly to sleep  :'(. I told her that the neighbor lady told me that she saw a coyote had a cat in its mouth 2 blocks away. The girl told me that coyotes are just scavengeres that just picked up some roadkill.... Wonder what the look on her face would of been if I told her that housecat distress is one of my favorite calling sounds. She was outside when I was headed to my truck and gave me the stinkeye! I realized my truck has PM and NWPHA stickers.  Going to have to get some H-W stickers soon.
