Combining Pyrodex and 777

So I'm at Wholesale sports and I told the guy that I was a Muzzleloading virgin and I need to buy all the basic gear... He pointed me in the direction that I needed to go. I threw a bunch of stuff in my basket...I'd heard good things about pyrodex vs 777 so I wanted to get 50gr and 30gr pyrodex to experiment with. They didn't have 30gr pyrodex so I went and asked the (same) guy if they has .50 cal 30gr pyrodex. He went back there with me and ended up giving me to 777 saying that it's mede by the same company and that I could combine them. I pointed out that it said that it's only supposed to be used w/209 primer, he said that that's why people use musket caps with it. From what I've read 777 is not good with our WA restrictions. What if I used pyrodex on the bottom and two 30gr 777's behind the bullet? Would that work? I also noticed that 2- 30gr 777's are actually smaller than 1- 50gr Pyrodex. So I'm kinda pissed because I can't return these pellets and I got fed a pile of poop by somebody who was supposed to be "helping" me. Or am I wrong?

it would probably work but i would never do it i am not sure it is safe either. 777 is fine if using musket caps some people use it with #11 but i have heard of some hang fires with the pellets. better to use musket caps and one brand of powder is my

You just learned a pricey lesson. Never mix powders "smokey" or smokeless. T7 pellets are bad for WA muzzys. The loose stuff is good to go. Apperantly what  ever "glue" they use to make the pellets makes them harder to ignite.

with the 777 pellets use #11 and place the pellets with the smooth end toward the ignition source.  I have never had a problem.

MyKiss, NEVER, NEVER mix powders, T7 and Pyrodex are two totally differant compounds that ignite and burn differant. The barrel pressure could be high causing issues we here on this board never need to hear a member having. T7 by itself or Pyrodex are good powders.

If you look at the pellets one end will be darker thats the end that goes in first,they should be placed in the container with the darker end down so when you take them out they'll go right into the barrel that way . Don't mix the powders !!!!!

I don’t where you read that, 777 works great.  Pellets are the problem.  Try loose 777 and you shouldn’t have any issues.

Loose powder is the way to go with this state's regulations. DON'T COMBINE POWDERS! 777 loose powder works fine. It is what I use. Pay attention to the grain sizes too  (ie...ff, or fff )

there is no prob if they work for you. but the 777 are harder to ignite and with the #11 being not as hot as the musket cap. i have heard of many hang fires and flaming pellets being pushed out the barrel and more common with 3 pellets as well they are recommended for 209 shooting guns. but if they work for you that's great.

Thats what I thought. I was worried there was something else I didnt know about. I have had good luck with the 777 pellets.

I have shot t7 and pyro out of inlines and out of my long rifle that I use #11 on as long as you keep the bulster durm clean I have never had a problem with either powders but then I dont load to max either
The bigest thing I ve found is just keeping nipples and bulsterdrums on trad. and breach plugs on the inlines clean and clear

I use 777 pellets in my Bighorn with a musket cap.
