Selkirk any moose tag help please
« on: June 22, 2010, 09:26:40 PM »
My father finally drew a Selkirk any moose tag. Neither of us have ever ventured into that neck of the woods ,so I am asking if anyone has some helpful hints or tips they would like to share it would be greatly appreciated. This appears to be a very large unit with lots of roads and possibilities. Thanks in advance .

Mossy,

I would do a search on here and hit up the individuals who have had the tag in the past. There are several people who get a permit, come one here for the hunting season and then disappear. If you send them a PM you will probably get more info. I hope that helps, you are right, the area is large and not accessed by most. I am envious of your father. Good luck and keep us posted on the hunt. I put you guys on the OIL thread so you may get help from there too.

The local biologist for that unit is who I would start with. You will get pretty much all the info you need on where you need to be from that person.

BearPaw Outfitters will give you a map with some hot spots to concentrate on for $275.  My cousin got drawn in 49 degrees last year and shot a 45" bull.  He lives over here on the west side and the info saved him a ton of gas money and time.  He saw around 40 bulls in 8-9 days of hunting.  Good luck and lets see you results after it hits the ground.

Great tag.  Lots of moose in there, if you want to do a DIY, I would still use Bearpaw's maps :twocents:

Save the money , there's some good areas to glass from , it's only a matter of time before you find your bull. you want one close to the road , it,s crazy thick up there. I cant believe all the members who drew the selkirk tag .

I talked to the BIO. and he pointed me in the right area. pendoreilleadventures put me on the same area, but he gave me more details to land me on my bull in 49. Save your money for that head mount.

I drew in 2007. Definitely talk to the Bio but remmember that he is getting asked by almost everyone where to go and is basically giving you a place to start. He may tell you to go to Goose Creek when he tells the next guy to go to Cee Cee Ah or Leclerk. There are moose all over it is just a matter of time and deciding what you want to get out of the hunt. PM me if you would like any more info.
Tell your dad to be thankful he drew that tag before the wolves take over.

I had the tag in 08 and was not able to go until the 1st. week in Nov. Due to physical problems had to basically road hunt. All the moose I found were up high near the tops of the ridges. Ended up taking a 2 1/2 year old on a old road.
