Calling All Moose!
« on: June 24, 2010, 10:00:31 AM »
Well, maybe not ALL moose but a few good bulls anyway. ;)

Does anyone hear have experience calling moose?  If so, what call(s) do you recommend?  Any subtleties I should be aware of regarding our moose that I may not discover when reading or watching available books and videos?

Thanks!

Just make a sound like a sick angus and they'll come running.  Don't worry about performing the perfect call, they are in love in the fall and any sound of romance in the air is better than none at all.  They are pretty easy to call.  Just rent a moose calling dvd to see what sound you are supposed to sound like and give it a shot.

Trying to learn how to call is a bunch of fun before the hunt, not to mention all the strange looks you get from the wife, the kids, the dog, good times, I know there were some in my family that were happy when moose season was done  LOL.

Use a megaphone made from tree bark, you can lace it with leather shoelace or twine.

Copy a moose grunt for one call to make them think there is a bull when close, like this one: Huge bull moose grunting in lake - Glacier National Park (Sept. '09)

Good bull call here too:  Brian calling moose

I have a pile of moose videos I'm probably willing to sell at a very reasonable price.  Let me know.  VHS and DVD, including the afermentioned ones.
