Simmons Sharks - Anyone ever used them?
« on: June 25, 2010, 11:10:03 PM »
So I'm trying a new broadhead this year.  I've been wanting to try a two-blade for a few years now for better penetration, so I did some searching and found the head I'm going to use.  I had never heard of Simmons Sharks before and just happened to stumble upon them when reading an article about broadhead penetration tests.  These heads have .050" blades, so they should be super strong.  I'm also going HEAVY.  I'm shooting a 165 grain head which puts my total arrow weight at 560 grains.  My Mathews Monster launches these logs at 285 fps, which produces 101 ft lbs of kinetic energy.  I'm thinking they should do very well at busting through bone.  Also, after doing some reading and watching videos, I decided to order the broadheads in a "single bevel" design.  The single bevel is apparently supposed to be much better at breaking bone when encountered.

Anybody ever shoot these Simmons Sharks before or any single bevel broadhead?  If you have, I would be very interested to know your thoughts on performance.

P.S.  I don't intentionally try to hit bone when I let an arrow fly, but it can happen.
