Danner Jackal gtx
« on: June 29, 2010, 04:13:42 AM »
Anyone have any input on the Danner GTX? Although I have been let down by Danners quality over the years, it seems like the Jackals may be a good early archery boot.

How is the traction? It seems like a great stalking boot just a little worried about traction.

looks like it would be crappy traction, going away from the bobs sucks, their hiking boots used to have the bob soles..The elk hunter still has them,I like that sole...

Great traction, have not had any issues, even climbing over/ on downed trees, even when wet.

Good luck with the new boots.I hope they last for You.

It is on the tongue of the boot.MADE IN CHINA.
The company is still based out of Portland..

Here is a little read..

by Dan Schmitz

I went into Big 5 Sporting Goods Store looking for some hiking boots.  I found some nice ones, but not one pair made in America.

On to Bass Pro Shops, looking for the same pair of hiking boots.  Guess what?  No boots made in America.

Like most of my friends, I gave up checking and purchased a name brand pair of hiking boots which were, of course, made in China.

On the way to the check stand, a clearance sale sign for Danner hiking boots caught my eye.  I had an old pair of Danner boots made in the U.S.A. that I loved, but they were getting worn out.  These new Danners were $189, on sale for $69.  Score!

Naturally, I took it for granted the new Danners were still made in America (you don't pay almost $200 for a pair of boots made in China!).  When I got home and checked, the boots were made in China.

It is not just about specialty shoes.  I strolled through Lowe's the other day, looking at tools.  I could not find one of the name brand tools that were made in America.  Of course, the store brand was also made in China.

Our federal government has no current realistic plan to stop, much less reverse our indebtedness to China, who now essentially owns us.

Here is a cool link..

Now dont get Me wrong! I have been wearing Danner Boots for almost 30 years now.I am disappointed to See them flying the
"MADE IN CHINA" thing inside the boots. But all I know is when they weren't Made in China..They were great boots.

This is interesting..I will have to look into this!

I was looking at the Danner website yesterday and was kinda surprised at the updates they made. You can now select to see their boots that are made in the USA only. Its quite shocking to see how few are still made in the USA. I've heard that there is a massive difference in quality from the chinese made boots vs. the USA made ones. The USA made ones are still the top notch boots that they always were.

But then again its tough to find anything not Made In China..

Do a search on "Danner Boots Made in China..Pretty interesting reading..
Buy White's Made in Spokane..Very good boots endorsed By the Forest service and those Folks put the boots through the test..

LaCrosse Footwear Inc. said Wednesday it's moving its Danner boots production to a new 59,000-square-foot factory -- twice the size of its current plant -- about a mile from its Northeast Portland headquarters.

The company will spend about half of this year's $8 million to $9 million capital-expenditure budget on the project, company spokesman Michael Newman said. LaCrosse expects to begin production at the new plant in the third quarter of 2010.

The announcement comes a week after the footwear maker posted record fourth-quarter sales, fueled by demand for its military and outdoor boots.

"Our new, world-class production facility will significantly increase our capacity to meet the growing worldwide demand," said Joseph P. Schneider, LaCrosse's president and CEO, in a news release. It will also include a new space for its factory outlet store.

"The new factory will also improve our operating efficiencies by incorporating the latest lean manufacturing techniques," he said. "This is an important step in the continued growth of our business."

LaCrosse recorded sales of $139.2 million last year, a 9 percent gain from 2008.

Shares jumped 8.64 percent to $17.36 in Wednesday's trading.

I still own two pairs of Danner's. Both US made. The Rainforest and the Hoodriver light. Both have been a decent boot 2 years and running. The rainforest is my daily work boot.
As far as Jackals, I never even thought about the fact of being an import. So that's an easy decision . No Jackals for me. Now time to search for a U.S built boot.
