Scouting GMU 260. Got a question
« on: June 29, 2010, 03:00:14 PM »
It's right around Brewster.  I know there are rattle snakes in the area.  How concerned should I be?  Concerned enough to take some snake shot for my pistol or am I thinking there is more danger there than there actually is?

you should be fine.
yes there are snakes there but just keep a eye and ear open for them.
from years of being on that hill there we have only really come across a hand full of them.
you're thinking there is more danger then there is. good luck scouting.

I understand shooting the snakes and thats fine, but is a pistol really gonna help to protect you in rattlesnake country? I've been in snake country and not had any problems with them before.
I just don't think anybody's fast enough to get the draw on them and they're not gonna run you down...
 :dunno:
If they're gonna hit you, you're not gonna shoot fast enough to stop them.

i agree jaclelope, you're not going to win a quick draw with em... LOL
i have been all over those hills and yes they are there but honestly they are wanting nothing to do with us and would rather be left alone or when we have seen them they are slipping for cover away from us.
like you said, if they are going to hit you they hit you, but 99 percent of time they want nothing to do with us and you would have to step on them to get them to be that aggressive. not saying there isn't that odd one that is pissed at the world though but if you see them you can avoid them.

My brother and I ran across a huge den of rattlers in that area.  HUGE!!!  Good high boots will do you a lot better than a pistol.  Good luck scouting, lots of pumpkins up that way come modern.

they are good people but don't allow too much access to their lands. and for the most part can't blame them after seeing what the area looks like after the masses have moved thru and what they have left behind..
if you have access to some of it, you'll have fun.  ;)
