Did anyone else get the survey?????
« on: July 10, 2010, 08:58:37 AM »
Hi all, Last week I get a "survey/Questionaire" in the mail from WDFW because I'm a licensed Taxidermist, that wanted my input on a paperless system for Taxidermy related licenses.  It starts off by stating they are looking at making taxidermy licenses, fur bearers license, etc available via the internet instead of contacting Olympia and going directly through the main office.  I thought to myself what a great idea and money saver.  Then I got to the last question which stated somjething to the effect of, would you support the 10% fee increase and $2.00 handling fee for this new program. >:( :bash:.

I don't know about you guy's/gals,  but this state has one of the highest taxidermy license fees in the country!  I moved from Oregon a few years back and my State taxidermy license in Oregon was $6.50 a year.  I have spoke directly to the licenseing office in Olympia about this and they told me that they have never received a complaint about the $180.00 fee before. :dunno:  I answered the last question with a hand written note that stated, "I do not support ANY license fee increase, and left my name and phone number, respectively requesting them to call me so I can discuss it further with them.  I'll see if I get a call from them.  Ok i'm finished venting now.  Talk with you all soon.

Ya I got it and put it on the counter and forgot about it. I will do the same, its BS. I think for that price the fur dealers liscense should come with it and a multi season deer and elk tag  ;)

As it is right now, they send me a "bill" . I check "Taxidermy Liscence" , write my $180.00 check and send it back. Seems pretty simple. In about 2-3 weeks I have my new liscence and ledger .  :dunno:

That was how I read it as well.

I opted to keep it the way it is, through Olympia and wrote that too many vendors don't have proper training or know what they doing.

I received it and I think it works fine the way it is. Too many older trappers in the state who don't know what the internet is and I don't like the idea of going through the dealers. The problem with that, I see is they will probably try to go to the flimsy recreational license and I really like the plastic credit card style license. We as in WSTA has had promises tendered for the last 4 years to reduce the fur dealers license and it is conveniently forgotten about. Sometimes it seems like you're talking to a stump for all the good it does you. Sent them a long letter with the survey anyway. Hope it does some good.

I sent mine back with a 2 page "pissed off" letter attatched. We are getting so ripped off in this state. It's rediculous! It's no wonder that there are thousands of UNLICENSED taxidermists in Washington. They could keep a lot better track of all of us if they lowered the cost. They would make  a lot more money if they charged $40 x 1000 as apposed to $180 x 100. But that is too fricking logical.

Well Ric, I tried the logic approach when I talked with them on the phone in Olympia.  I basically got laughed at and told that no one has ever complained about the high price before and that it has been this rate for a long time, which was total BS!  When I told them that Washington has one of the highest rates in the US, again was told, "I didn't know that".  I guess we can't win.
