nope, the local homeowners have blocked the public road that leads up there with a gate of their own..I wouldnt wanna park and walk up either that place is sketchy

I thought MT required public access be made available through private ranches that bordered National Forests and other public lands, if there was no other way into those areas?  When I hunted MT seven years ago I was able to cross through several ranches to get to public lands; only requirement was to ensure gates were closed and no stopping or hunting on the private properties.  Maybe that's changed since then....?

what law or code is that?  I wouldnt want to get nailed with tresspassing, or get shot at while crossing private property in WA because its legal in MT.

I think you can still access it by walking or biking in.  You cant drive in anymore unless you know someone to open the gate.  I heard there was another way in by 4x4 but dont know how?  Maybe lake Riley side???

 That's not true in Wa., or in Montana. Legal access means right to trespass without a public access, plain and simple. You cannot trespass, period, it's against the law.

that is completely incorrect;  private land owners do not have to provide access through their private ground to public ground behind it;  that certainly isn't the law in WA or MT, in fact, I do not know of any state in the Western US where this is the law;  the state of montana does have some situations where it has worked with landowners (easements; block management) where it provides access to public ground through private ground, but, that is a completely voluntary program on part of the landowner.

try this in MT and I can garauntee you that you will get to meet some new people in a hurry........

After my other post, I did some online research and found the answer in black and white; "Individuals must have permission from the landowner to cross adjacent private land to hunt on National Forest Lands".  Same thing for BLM lands.  Refer to this website:

MT does have an incentive program for landowners that do allow access through their properties.

I think we need to clarify if we are talking about Montana or Ebey mtn.  If it's Ebey mountain then the answer is it's all locked up.

 There are limitations to citizen's arrest, but it is allowed under law, here is some info:

another nice one in MT is the state school trust lands;  motorized vehicles are prohibited UNLESS it is designated to be open; which is rare;

so, say your bopping down your favorite BLM two-track rd (all legal) and that two track goes through one state section, and it is not marked as being ok, then you are breaking the law.....found that one out the hard way.....you could have just driven through 30 BLM sections, legally, and there could be 30 BLM sections on the other side of the state school trust ground, but if your road goes through it, and it isn't marked as being open, you are breaking the law.

this in of itself, renders thousands of acres of public ground off limits;  Very few BLM two track roads through school trust grounds have DNRC signs saying it is ok.

As far as I can tell there are two parcels of public land that access the Ebey Mountain area in WA without having to cross private land first. The are both accessed from Jim Creek Road. The problem with the access points is they are not really close to any other roads or trails. In addition it looks like a lot of bushwhacking on hilly terrain to get anywhere interesting.

1. Go to http://gis.snoco.org/maps/property/index.htm and open the SCOPI application.

2. Input parcel numbers 32063300100800 or 32062500100100 in the "Find Parcel Number" box on the left side of the screen and click "Go"

3. Use the zoom and navigation features on the left side of the screen. Note you can check the box marked "Color Aerial Photo" to get a much better picture of things.

My cousin lives at the base of Ebey mt, the part closest to highway 530, there is an old 4x4 trail right behind his house that leads up to a logging road. We have hunted up there and it is pretty good hunting, lots of small bucks we never really seen anything bigger than a 2-point. But if you can get up there that side of the mountain has plenty of clearcuts and area to hunt.
