Parker Hale 1200
« on: July 25, 2010, 12:55:23 PM »
I recently inherited a Parker Hale 1200 in 300 Win Mag and am wondering if any of you own or have used one of these. From what I can find the brand was imported to a Colorado distributer (JANA) between the 60's and early 90's.  It should make a fine hunting rifle.

It came with a box of Core Lokt 150's so I am antsy to go punch some paper with it.  I'll post a pic soon.. it's a beautiful gun with lines similar to a vintage Weatherby.

I had  a Parker-Hale in 7mm Rem. Mag.  It was stamped J. C. Penny on the barrel.  Plain grade of rifle, but it was basically a more modern M98 mauser.  I used it quite a bit and was a pretty good shot with it.  Once after a rainy day elk hunting the stock swelled and pinched the safety and trigger area and wouldn't shoot, but later I glass bedded the action.  I traded it for a Ruger, than traded the Ruger for a Remington.  It was nothing fancy but a good rifle.

Here's a pic.

Story goes that my wife's grandpa only shot it on one occasion to site it in.  Given the condition I think I agree. :IBCOOL:

I only found out the model after some researching.  I tried to find out what year it was made, but from all I can find when the company sold it didn't transfer any of the old serial records and the serial numbers don't line up like many brands to identify a production year.  It sounds like our guns came through the same importer at some point.

The front sight has a hood.  I'm not sure if I'll stick with the see through scope rings, but I'll need to see how well the scope and sight work  before I shell out some cash for any replacements.
