Anyone know where to get case hardening done?
« on: July 20, 2010, 09:22:47 AM »
I bought a kit flint lock.  I would like to get the barrel Case hardened with the multiple colors that show.  (I think that is called color case hardening, but not 100% sure - please excuse my ignorance!).

Anyone know of a place to get that done?

You might want to look at this , it was a discussion on case hardening on anothe sight.

I don't know if you can get a barrel done as there is such a chance of warping during the case hardening process.   The usual finish for traditonal muzzle loaders is browning.

After the first shot the rest are just noise.

Thanks for the link and the info...

I'll need to think about this a bit.

I would HIGHLY suggest you NOT case harden the barrel.  In the process of case hardening your actually making the metal a little brittle and the barrel will not be as strong.  Your rifle will look nice with a case hardened hammer and locks...just not the barrel.
