Hunter vs Hunger
« on: August 22, 2010, 09:20:51 AM »
Lets say that Washington State started a program that lets a hunter kill 2 deer a year (drawing of cource).

Now here is the kicker. The 2nd deer can be either sex, BUT has to go to feed a hungery family, or soup kitchen.. The state would cover the cost of the cutting and wrapping (  :chuckle: ) or if you know of a family that NEEDS the meat you could pay the butchering and donate it yourselves.. Paper work required.

Would you do it?? Why or why not..Oh yeah,, It would use you points if you get drawn..

Myself,,Yes I would. I have given meat to families that need it..Believe it or not, I had on man say he didn't take hand outs. I told him its a hand up, not out..I put the meat on his porch (a nice doe all cut and wrapped) and left..The next time I saw him and his wife, was at the store with rice, beans, milk, well just the basics in thier shopping cart..A week later, the gentelman got him a job, and things started to turn around for them..

Sounds like a great idea to me.  The state get money from the drawing so they would be happy, you get to hunt another deer, and someone who really needs food gets it.  Sounds like a great idea to me.

Isn't there already some type of Hunters Feed the Hungry program in WA where the hunter(s) donate all or part of their harvested birds or animals to various food banks?  Although it'd be great for a program like you suggested, it would be a nightmare for FWP to enforce and we all know that some hunters would take advantage and keep both animals they harvested.  Just my  :twocents: worth.

Sounds like a generous idea but I am not in favor of it even though my freezer is empty.
I do think that some of these master hunter shoots in the hay field should be considered, because I think kids & disabled should be doing these hunts.
Also equally of the people that may need a helping hand I know of many hunters hoarding years of annual multiple animals in many places.

Yes I would and if I could kill two elk I would do the same with the second cow elk. I may not have a lot but I know I have more then others.

The last time I tryed to donate some deer to the Salvation Army, they told me that if its not USDA inspected they don't want it..I do agree with some poachers taking advantage of it thow..

would it be tax deductible?

sounds like a great idea
catch it. kill it. cook it. eat it.
Forget the bear spray, use wasp killer. Concentrated delivery stream, 10X the product, and only $3.00 on sale.

AK has that for fresh road kill.  I saw it on AK state troopers TV show.  The moose was still alive but had 4 broken legs, so the trooper shot it, and mad a call.  A few minutes later a guy is gutting it on the side of the road.
Rather be dead than cool.

There is a program now, apply for a bonus tag, fill it, butcher it, and give it away.  What do you need the state getting involved for?
