:chuckle: what can i say i am a freak :'( :chuckle: we will see how well it shoots and go from there. i like a lot so far but untill i know what it does on paper i am not going to get to attached to it. its says the gun should work best with around a 250g bullet. i like a heavy bullet so i am going to try some i  have i am going to shoot 250g QT 260grain dead centers 340g dead centers 290g tmzs unless i start with one and it groups perfect for me i will try to run all threw the gun to give some ideas for others.

Cool. 8)  Man, I'm envious of you with that new rifle.  Mine is so damn heavy, I'll have to consider getting one like yours someday.  Congrats on the new Vortek.
May I always be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.

When you get tired of it, let me know and you can sell it to me. I sold my Black Diamond so I now only have a sidelock. One muzzleloader.... how many do you have?

I agree- 250 grain bullets are too light. I think 300 is a good minimum. In that gun I would try the Barnes 325's.

I am also going to change my #11 nipple on my Lyman Deerstalker to a musket cap nipple, also against the manufacturer's recommendation.

some guns have the pas systems in them what it is curly is a gap. "most times around 1" in the front of the barrel that has no rifling in it that the bullet does not need to be forced into, to be started. the guns that have rifling all the way to the end are harder to get the bullets to start into them. the guns that have this system you just drop them in, and they sit there until you seat them with the ramrod. other guns without most times have to use a starter ramrod to get them in good enough to use the ramrod on.

also one thing i was going to talk about a little before i shoot it. "to prevent from being bi est" :chuckle: is the porting. i am wondering if i am going to loose any loose powder out of it when loading loose powder like i shoot. The recoil reduction should be very nice on this gun with it. But during hunting with no ear muffs on it might get kinda loud :chuckle:

I always put tape over the muzzle of my rifle so not to get water down the bore during hunting season, we only have so many dry hunting days :chuckle:.  I'm not sure how I would feel about the porting, it would be nice at the range, but would one put tape over the porting?  I would see that as a mess to clean as the sticky residue works into the porting.  Then again it may not be as loud without earmuffs  :dunno:.

Congrats on your new purchase carp, I hope it shoots well for you!!

On a second note here Carp, I finally got my new Truglo sights in the mail today :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL:!!  The rear sight was simple to get on the rifle, the front sight was a challenge...all the way up to the point I was able to find a screwdriver to fit in that darned hole  ;).  The new set-up looks nice, I'll have to through some copper down range this weekend, but the rifle comes up so nicely .  I'm looking foward to shooting it and really looking foward to see how it does for me in the field.

I want a Vortek but I wouldn't want it to be ported. Are they available without the ported barrel?

nope i do not think so bobcat, i have not seen any that are not ported. you might be able to order one from them.

ml_hunter: yes that is what i planned to do. is just put a piece of black elec tape around the end on the barrel to cover them up just like i  do for the muzzle of the gun. i am glad you like the setup. there is a lot of people walking around in the muzzle loader season with that sight. i think i have sold about 60 of them for them :chuckle: maybe when i hit 100 they will give me comish :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: shoot strait :IBCOOL:

I know were comming compleatly off thread an onto the other thread now sorry!  How long did it take you to get it sighted in?

Today I was able to get it in the black at 25 yds with 3 shots, again at 50 years with 2 shots, and I took it out to 100 yds and was on black my first shot, but then fell on and off of black as I was making my adjustments.  I keep making to large of adjustments  :bash:.  After my last shot, I was 5 inches to the left and 6 Inches high.  Just need to come over to the right and drop about 2 Inches and I'll be set!!  But I ran out of bullets at the range.  I spent all day yesterday driving From Yelm to Federal way looking for TMZ's but everyone is sold out, So I just placed a Barns order and will hopfully have 48 bullets by Friday, and then I need to go shooting some more.  Hopfully I can get to where I need to by in my next 5-10 shots then take another 5 shots to make sure I can hold a 5 shot group at 100 yds.
