Thinking about this pistol or the Kel-tec but leaning more to the Rugar.. Anybody have either of these. Looks to be a nice pistol to pack for the BackCountry!

The LCP has been a great zero problems with over 500 rounds. Not the best grip for someone with big hands but carries very well.

I've put 800 rounds through my Kel-Tech PF-9. No problems so far. And packs great.

Rent before you buy, I have big hands and the LCP is short enough from back of grip to trigger that I have a hard time shooting one and was unable to shoot it accurately. An LCR or J frame I can shoot, I bought the J frame and carry it every day, it disappears in a pocket holster. Another .380 you might look at is the Bersa, it's a little bigger and was much easier for me to shoot.

The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.

I've got just over 1000rnds through my LCP.
Half-and-half reloads and factory ammunition.
Very accurate for what it is (I've shot 2" 5 shot groups at 10yds) but it is one of the most difficult pistols to learn to shoot. Many shooters find their paws are too big and you just cannot get a good trigger pull without your whole hand shifting. It has a long, heavy trigger pull that takes a lot of time to master.
I've had maybe 5 malfuctions...and all I can remember were with cast-lead semi wadcutters (which will jam just about any pistol if they aren't "just right.") It's been flawless with ball and HP's whether factory or reloads.
That being said, my buddies is the pickiest gun I've ever dealt with...the pathetic thing is we purchased them at the exact same time, and the serial numbers are only off by 2!
The LCP is small and easy to carry. It finds it way along with me quite often simple because I don't have to think twice about what I'm wearing in order to properly conceal it. I'd still prefer a Smith Jframe instead, but it is a nice piece for what it is intended for. A 9mm is a huge step up in stopping power over a .380! It definitely is NOT my choice for a woods gun.

The Kel-Tech here and carries great and I quit counting but well over 1000 rounds through it. It jammed prbably five times when it was brand new for about the first 50 rounds but since then not one problem. I had the Lcp but sold it to a buddy. It was a good gun also that was trouble free but I like the Kel-Tech better.

I have the kel tec p3at which is the same gun as the ruger, just not a clean looking. It's very light, fits in the pocket and carries real easy. Like others have said, people with big hands can have a time with it. I have to adjust my hands after a shot or 2. It's like holding on to a fire cracker for me, but now my daughter can shoot the thing like a pro and is very accurate with it. Probably around 500 rounds and only operator malfunctions.

I almost bought one, but went with the smith bodyguard instead. I was turned off by the location of the laser untill I played with one. I now have 300 rds through it and not a hiccup yet. some guys whine about the safety, but you don't have to use it....after all you don't get one on other guns.....me, I carry loaded and chambered wit the safety on. I carry this gun just about 100% of the time I am not in the shower or at work.

I have one that I picked up from a guy who was in desperate need of some cash, so I had to take it. It is to small for my meat hooks, but the wife loves it and now it is one of her carry guns.

I got one.
The craftsmanship on the lcp is superior to that of the Keltec imo. At first I wasn't sure I liked the long trigger pull but I got accustomed to it. For a compact shooter I think it's great. I don't know about backcountry defense but in a pinch I would think a close up shot or two to the face would stop somebody. I wouldn't use it past 10 or 15 yds though. It's small size makes it a non-issue to to carry and conceal.

I almost got one but decided it was to small. My son just bought the Bersa thunder 9 mm ultra compact. For a gun in the $300-350 range it is a very good value. If he would let me, I would carry it in the field in a second. Small, light and 13 + 1 in the magazine. I currently carry a S&W 5906 in stainless but it's a little heavy.
