Filson Chaps or Upland Pants

My wife gave me a gift card for Cabelas.  I was thinking about either getting some Filson Chaps or some upland pants.  I've heard the Chaps are more durable but get hot?  Any recommendations?

I'd get chaps but not the Filsons. I have some but they're hard to get on and off over boots, and I prefer nylon over leather. I would recommend these:

Really? My chaps weight next to nothing. And they're nice because if I get too warm, they're easy to take off. But then, I never did invest in any specialized bird hunting pants, so maybe I don't know what I'm missing.

I have a pair of both and the ones mentioned above will not keep You dry.The filson ones are bullet proof.But I do perfer to hunt in My filson tin pants.

They keep me dry. That's the main reason I wear them. I do spray them with Camp Dry (silicone water repellent) once a year though. The filsons will soak up water too eventually, unless you keep them well coated with the Fison wax they come with.

Pants, but get the Dry Plus nylons so everything is waterproof and snag proof.  If you are only hunting sage brush than I suppose you can go cheaper.  I used tin pants for years, but they tear really easy if you ever hook them on barbwire.

I like the cabela's oilskin chaps.  They are durable and easy to get on and off.  Have had them for about 4 years now and they are still as good as new.  Just oil them up before the season and you're good to go.  I've never tried the pants so I don't know about them.

They are like the filson just a little lighter.She liked them and seemed to keep her dry.

I have the double tin pants and the single tin chaps. the chaps are sweet because there are times that I do not "need" them, so I can go without. the pants are bulletproof, but stiff as a shingle. the chaps can be warn over a pair of wranglers in the early chukar hunts or over a pair of fleece pants in the late season.  I tried the cabelas stonwall chaps and I am not sure if it was the made in china tag or the cheap zipper that made me take them back after 4 days in montana. the chaps are the ticket for me, although I will still wear my double tin pants in the late cold season as long as there is no chance of sweating.

I have the stonewall upland bibs, they are waxed, tough as nails, very comfortable when its COLD out, but get warm early season.

I love the double tin chaps from Filson, over a pair of jeans they are great.  they do a great job in keeping me dry and warm.The double tins are more expensive, but the zipper makes the difference for boots.  If you get the chaps, get suspenders.

When things are too hot, I do the Carhart double front jeans, they seem to block most of everything that would be considered pointy.

I have owned my Filson chaps for 10 years and never hunt the brush with out them.

Upland pants for me. Dry plus from cabelas or bird-n lite.

I use both, depending on the terrain I'm hunting.  Lightweight pants if I'm huffing up chukar hills all day in early season, and chaps ( use Lion Country chaps, which are excellent) if I'm busting brush and crp after quail/pheasants, or hunting chukars in the snow.

I have worn through every pair of filson pants in the first season.  Usually right on the inside of the knee and the crotch always seems to rip on me. 
Great while they last but not worth the price.
I wore Redington upland pants while they made them and have been looking for a lightweight replacement every since.  I'll have to check out some of these ideas.

So I want to circle around on this question.

I bought Filson Chaps and the Cabelas stonewall wax cotton.  My question,I prefer the Filson the appear better made, but I can't get them off without taking off my boots.  You Filson guys is it me or the Chaps?  boot aren't huge only sz 11.

I bought a nice pair of Bargain Cave upland pants for 20 bucks. (columbia sportsware) The only reason I'd wear chaps is for snakes and I have a nice pair of single hide per leg leather chaps for that. Heavy but snake proof front, side, back I'm covered. Did I mention I hate venomous snakes!!!

The have the Filson Chaps and used them but they made me feel like one of the Village people..I now wear the wrangler bird pants and they are just fine!

You could do like me and wait until your hunting buddy outgrows the waist of his pant and then gives them to you. I find that to be the most economical option.

I always wear the wrangler brush pants I bought from cabelas. I have tried several others and the wranglers are more comfy on all day adventures. They also seem more durable than the others I have worn. I believe they were around $35.

I have the tin/shelter cloth bibs, they are awesome.  I just throw a pair of hoops shorts underneath when it is a bit warmer and wear long underwear when its cold.  I really like them. They are easy to get off over my boots and gives me some room underneath to wear additional layers if desired.  I would reccomend going one pant size up in filson gear, tends to shrink a bit and I always seem to have something on underneath anyways, just gives you some more room.  My  the pants are great too, I just like the bibs for reason explained above.

I went and bought a pair of filson chaps for bird hunting, they worked just fine but I have only worn them once.  I prefer to wear my plain old double knee carhearts.  I have never had anything penetrate them.
